چکیده

The problems of waste disposal have always been with us. In biblical times, the residents of Jerusalem always burnt their wastes in the hideous Vale of Gehenna. This gave way to burial of waste or sometimes dumping it in shallow oceans. All too often the sewage pipes of the seaside towns did not even take the waste to the low tide mark; and the use of the deep oceans as a disposal site has been almost unknown. As time has progressed, not only has the number of people increased hut the amount of waste per person has increased as well. This has led in the last 10 years to a greater public concern overwaste disposal

Partitioning-transmutation Technology: a Potential Future Nuclear Waste Management Option

Partitioning-transmutation technology (PT) will produce radioactive wastes of different physical and chemical properties and in different amounts from those generated in the current nuclear fuel cycle. To assess quantitatively the effects of PT on waste disposal, we first analyzed the amounts of the PT wastes, assumed conditioning for each type of the waste, and then made an attempt to estimate...

Practical methods for reducing radioactive contamination incidents in the nuclear cardiology laboratory.

OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to determine the extent and cause of radioactive contamination in our nuclear cardiology laboratory, and to develop possible solutions to minimize future occurrence. METHODS We conducted a retrospective review to determine the underlying causes of the 15 minor radioactive contamination events that have occurred in the exercise areas of our laboratory si...
